A fully modular primary reel for cave diving, available in 300ft and 600ft capacities. This reel was not adapted from other uses; it was designed from the ground up specifically for laying line in a cave. It is a solid, simple, and durable tool.
Why 3D Printing is Better for This
Most reels are injection-molded, which is excellent for mass-producing identical parts at a low cost. The disadvantage is that the design is fixed. We print every reel to order, which allows us to continuously refine the design based on diver feedback, rather than being locked into a single factory mold.
The printing process also allows for a completely solid construction. There is no flex or creaking, and the frame does not develop stress cracks after repeated impacts against rock.
Modular by Design
The reel can be completely disassembled without tools. This design simplifies travel and packing; the line stays on the spool, while the handles and knob can be detached and packed flat. This eliminates the difficulty of fitting a bulky, fully-assembled reel into luggage. Reassembly takes only a few seconds.
The modularity also allows for easy part replacement and customization. If a handle breaks, only the handle needs to be replaced, not the entire reel. Parts can be swapped or color-coordinated between reels.
Knurled Winding Knob
The winding knob is knurled to ensure a secure grip, even with thick gloves or cold hands. Drag can be adjusted without tools, allowing for on-the-fly changes underwater.
Choose Your Size
300ft Compact: Holds 300ft of #24 line or 450ft of #18 line. Weighs 500g empty (14cm x 11cm x 5cm). It stows securely, maintains a low profile, and will not interfere with stage cylinders. This is the correct size for most cave systems and shorter penetration dives.
600ft Full Size: Holds 600ft of #24 line or 800ft of #18 line. Weighs 600g empty (18cm x 14cm x 7cm). This reel holds enough line for longer penetrations or complex dives involving extensive navigation.
Both sizes are built with the same materials and hardware and feature the same tool-free disassembly for packing.
Standard vs. Custom
Standard reels are produced in Matte Black with Teal accents.
Custom allows for specific modifications to be added during the printing process. These can include:
- Initials or team tags integrated into the frame
- Tactile bumps or markers for identification by feel
- Different accent colors, subject to material availability
- Other custom mounting solutions as needed
Custom color choices do not add to the lead time. Custom initials, markings, or other design modifications may add additional lead time as the model must be modified. Select “Custom” at the time of ordering and enter your personalization details before adding to cart.
Line is not included. Reels are shipped empty and require line to be added by the user.
